#13 School Desk

Inspiration - In Jesus' Name (God of Possible) by Katy Nichole
I did this piece after the Uvalde school shootings. This song "In Jesus' Name (God of Possible)" has been my prayer for the families and those touched by the tragedy of school shootings and the gun violence taking innocent lives in our streets across America. We celebrated my son's first birthday a day after the Columbine school shooting. I thank the Lord that my children, grandson and family are safe. I carry the people in my heart that have an empty chair at the dinner table, and ones that are missing a friend that should be seated in that empty desk at school and for the survivors that witnessed the horror.
I dedicate this piece to my friend Aretha, my sister from another mother, who lost her precious son, Antonio Taylor, to unacceptable, gun violence.
I pray this song for you. The Lord is able to heal the broken hearted.
Jesus looked at them intently and said, "Humanly speaking, it is impossible. But not with God. Everything is possible with God."
Mark 10:27

The White Rose symbolizes innocence, youthfulness,
eternal love, honor, grace, a new start, fresh beginnings and loyalty.
*Think it not strange in Katy Nichole's song, the lyric, "I pray the dead would come to life in Jesus Name." Not only is it Biblical, but we've just witnessed an example of it on January 2, 2023, when Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin, collapsed and went into cardiac arrest during a game against Cincinnati. We witnessed the Power of Prayer on display and an example of the dead coming to life

I cleaned and sanded down the top of these pieces to reach the beautiful raw wood beneath, then sealed it.
Painted the body white. Kept it clean and simple.
Many people have felt the pain of losing someone close. Anne Wilson wrote this song having walked through that pain and grief. Her song and testimony reveal that she didn't camp out in that dark place, but walked through it.
When my husband saw this coffee table I purchased, the look on his face was that of....what is she possibly gonna do with that! It was in rough shape. But...he said it was beautiful when it was finished. Selah

Think it not strange in this interview when Darren says, "I want to see the lost found, the blind see, the lame walk and the dead rise. " Not only is it Biblical, but we've just witnessed an example of it on January 2, 2023, when Buffalo Bills safety, Damar Hamlin, collapsed and went into cardiac arrest during a game against Cincinnati. We witnessed the Power of Prayer on display and an example of the dead coming to life. In this interview Darren makes this statement, "It is the unity of God's people that will command the blessing." As all these football players knelt in prayer to the Father on that field , they were joined by countless others. This is a picture of what Darren was talking about.

I purchased this print and was searching the thrift stores for the perfect frame. I'm sharing this piece to show how I found an inexpensive picture frame and quickly fixed it up. I don't pass by something because of flaws. It can often be easily repaired. I love this print, and can now be enjoyed hanging on the wall.

The Salvation Army is one of my favorite places to purchase pieces.
Yes, for the bargain basement prices and for the good this organization does throughout the world.
Salvation Army was founded on July 5,1865
In the East End of London, revivalist preacher William Booth and his wife Catherine established the Christian Mission, later known as the Salvation Army. Determined to wage war against the evils of poverty and religious indifference with military efficiency, Booth modeled his Methodist sect after the British army, labeling uniformed ministers as "officers" and new members as "recruits."
The Christian Mission, in which women were given ranks equal with men, launched "campaigns" into London's most forsaken neighborhoods. Soup kitchens were the first in a long line of various projects designed to provide physical and spiritual assistance to the destitute. In the early years, many in Britain were critical of the Christian Mission and its tactics, and the members were often subjected to fines and imprisonment as breakers of peace.
In 1878, the organization was renamed the Salvation Army, and two years later the first U.S. branch opened in Pennsylvania. During the Great Depression, the Salvation Army provided food and lodging for those in need, and during both world wars it distinguished itself through its work with the Armed Forces. By then, it had come to be appreciated as an important international charity organization.
Today, the Salvation Army, still based in London, has branches in more than 75 countries. The Army operates evangelical centers, hospitals, emergency and disaster services, alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs, community centers, social work centers, secondhand stores, and recreation facilities. Voluntary contributions and profits from the sale of its publications fund the organization. Article from History.com

Over 20 years ago I bought this rifle cabinet at the Salvation Army. I've refurbished it many times.
I changed it once again... It sits in our dining room where we have dry goods stored. It was a way to gain additional cupboard space, yet hiding the contents, as the front was glass, I placed peel and stick wallpaper on glass first before taking it to the next level... adding ceiling tiles. More details found in the"Projects" tab.

The Print sitting on top of the cabinet is "The Angelus"
by Jean-Francois-Millet Date 1857-1859
Millet said, "The idea for the Angelus came to me because I remembered that my grandmother, hearing the church bell ringing while we were working in the fields, always made us stop working to say the Angelus prayer." When the individual who was supposed to take possession of painting did not, Millet added a steeple and changed the initial title of the work, Prayer for the Potato Crop, to The Angelus. What this piece means to me, is that it is a reminder to pray for the Harvest.

Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field." Matthew 9:37-38

The Bald Eagle
Courage, Strength & Freedom
In the Native American culture, an Eagle feather is a symbol of the Great Spirit,
Who is above all and from whom all strength and power flows.
Bald Eagles are highly revered and considered sacred within American Indian traditions, culture and religion. they are honored with great care and shown the deepest respect. They represent honesty, truth, majesty, strength courage, wisdom, power and freedom.
As they roam the sky, they are believed to have a special connection to God. From Taken from eagles.org
The Bald Eagle has been a symbol of the United States for about 235 years. It was put on the GREAT SEAL of the United States on June 20, 1782. The Bald Eagle wears a shield with 13 red and white stars. It holds an olive branch (a symbol for peace) in one talon and a bundle of 13 arrows in the other. This convey's the message: "America wants peace, but it is always ready for war." In its beak, it carries a banner that has the words, 'E Pluribus Unum,' which is the motto of the United States. It means "Out of many, one." This motto means that one nation was made out of many different colonies and was united. Seven years later in 1789, the Bald Eagle was officially adopted as an emblem, or a symbol of the United States. It was chosen for several reasons. It is majestic, which means 'like a king'. It is free to soar through the skies, which was a symbol as this new country had just fought for its freedom from England.
The Bald Eagle is unique to the United States and is very strong and lives a long time.
One story about the American Revolution claims that at an early battle of the war, the noise of the fighting woke up the Bald Eagles in the nearby mountains. As the birds swooped down from their nests, they began to make loud cries. The American soldiers are said to have thought the Bald Eagles were "shrieking for freedom."
Taken from Study.com
While other birds "run" from the weather the Eagle actively engages these stronger winds and,
instead of seeking shelter, uses the turbulence to push itself higher.
the storm allows the Eagle to gain entry into a space that it cannot normally reach in good weather. As a reward for this act of boldness, the Eagle is given a broader view of its surroundings. And, once above the storm, the Eagle is clear of the rough winds and its flight becomes smoother... with less effort.
So, embrace change ... fly into the storm... and you might just be rewarded with a new point of view and a smoother ride.
